Top Social Networking Apps on iOS in New Zealand Q3 2024

In the third quarter of 2024, New Zealand's iOS social networking app landscape saw notable trends across the top five applications, according to Sensor Tower data.

Threads by Instagram, Inc. exhibited a fluctuating pattern in weekly downloads, starting at approximately 6.2K in early July, dipping to 4.4K by the end of the month, and then peaking at 11.3K during late August. Weekly active users for Threads rose steadily from 104.6K at the start of the quarter to 123.4K by the end of September.

WhatsApp Messenger maintained a consistent performance in weekly downloads, hovering around 4K to 5K throughout the quarter. Active user engagement remained strong, increasing slightly from 580.6K in early July to 596.8K by the end of September.

For Facebook, weekly downloads were relatively stable, averaging around 3.4K with a minor peak of 4.1K in the last week of September. Revenue showed an upward trend, starting at $3K and reaching $4.5K by the end of the quarter. Active users remained robust, fluctuating slightly around 1.87M.

Messenger showed a consistent download rate averaging 3K, with a slight increase to 3.6K by the end of September. Revenue experienced minor fluctuations, peaking at $66 in mid-July before tapering off to $15 by the end of the quarter. Active users saw minor variations, ending the quarter at around 1.72M.

Lastly, Telegram Messenger demonstrated steady weekly downloads, mostly ranging between 2.2K and 2.6K. Revenue saw a notable increase during the quarter, rising from $1.1K in early July to a peak of $4.4K in mid-September. Active users remained fairly constant, with a slight decrease from 32.8K to 31.2K over the quarter.
